Starting from P8, Tom van Rompuy launched the #81 TF Sport Corvette Z06 GT3.R with a remarkable opening charge, advancing to second place by lap 20. He then handed over to Charlie Eastwood, who took the lead on lap 27 and completed a perfect stint before passing the car to Rui.
Taking over in the lead, Rui managed the pressure with skill and composure, extending the gap over the second-placed car during a strong opening stint. However, a poorly timed Safety Car period compromised their lead, setting the team back. Despite this setback, a final push from Charlie saw the #81 Yellow-Black Corvette Z06 GT3.R cross the finish line in P2, securing the trio’s first podium of the season and a double podium for TF Sport.
This podium marks Rui’s first in a GT car and a historic milestone, as he becomes the first Angolan to score a GT podium on the World Championship level. Wrapping up his debut LMGT3 season in the FIA WEC with a top-10 finish in the drivers’ standings, Rui’s successful transition from LMP2 further cements his place in international motorsport.
Rui Andrade:
“I am so happy to be able to finish the season on a high and get our first podium as well as 2-3 finish for the team. Another what if for us having led so much of the race until the safety car put us on the back foot, but we never gave up and charged our way back through the field. Mega drives from my teammates Charlie and Tom. Also a big thank you to TF Sport for all the hard work. This is only the beginning.“
Jamie Campbell-Walter, Managing Director, Bullet Sport Management:
“Transitioning to a new category is always challenging, especially at such a high level, but Rui has taken it all in stride. This season was tough, numerous unfortunate incidents beyond his control kept him just out of reach of the podium. However, Rui’s hard work and resilience paid off spectacularly in Bahrain, proving his determination with a stunning P2 finish. Ending the season on a high like this provides the perfect momentum for the winter break sets a strong foundation for what lies ahead. We couldn’t be prouder of Rui’s achievement; he’s worked tirelessly to get here. And there’s no doubt, this is only the beginning for the fastest Angolan in the world.“
