Oliver travelled to Austria for the second leg of the FIA F3 triple-header. It was his first visit to the Red Bull Ring as a Red Bull Junior driver.
The younger Goethe brother delivered a solid qualifying result on Friday that put him P7 and P6 on the grid for the races. Although this time he didn’t have the chance to fight for another podium, he still made the most out of both races, crossing the line in 7th place on Saturday and P5 on Sunday as the highest-finishing Red Bull Junior driver on both occasions and extended his point-scoring streak to 12 out of 12 races. With this extraordinary achievement, Oliver continues to be the most consistent driver on the 30-strong grid in a championship where consistency matters.
He is now 7th in the very tight championship battle, tied on points with sixth-placed fellow Red Bull Junior driver Arvid Lindblad.
Meanwhile in Belgium, Benji was facing the greatest GT race in the world: the 24H of Spa. The #159 Garage 59 McLaren had a challenging lead-up to race day. They suffered from technical issues and couldn’t show their full potential. Benji took the start of the race from P22 on the grid. In what ended up to be a gruelling race for most of the grid, Benji, and the #159 crew with Tom Gamble and Dean Macdonald tackled all the challenges thrown their way and crossed the line in 9th place in Pro Cup and 11th overall, as the top finishing McLaren 720S GT3 in the field.
While Benji now has two weeks off before his first home race of the season at the Hockenheimring (July 19-21) Oliver is back behind the wheel this weekend (July 5-7) at Silverstone for Round 7 of the FIA F3 championship.
Oliver Goethe:
“Overall it was a decent weekend at the Red Bull Ring. Qualifying was a bit chaotic with traffic but I managed to put together a solid lap that put me in p6. Which meant I started it in a good position for both races and I managed to come 7th and 5th with some promising pace and nice overtaking manoeuvres.”
Benjamin Goethe:
“Just getting to the end of this race is a big achievement. We’re not where we wanted to be but we had some setbacks earlier, which lost us some time. It wasn’t meant to be for us but I’m happy to get to the end and look forward to coming back next year.”
