RUI ANDRADE TO COMPETE IN IMSA MICHELIN ENDURANCE CUP WITH LONE STAR RACING

Fresh off his victorious FIA WEC LMP2 campaign, Rui Andrade heads to the USA to race in the ROLEX 24 at Daytona later this month. Rui enters the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup (MEC) with Lone Star Racing, making his GT debut behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

Andrade has competed in the IMSA MEC before in 2022 in the LMP2 class, taking a spectacular win at Petit Le Mans and two further podiums, including a third-place finish at Daytona.

The 24-year-old Angolan now returns to one of the most competitive sportscar championships in the world, making his GT racing debut before his FIA WEC season gets underway. Rui joins the 25-car-strong GT Daytona (GTD) grid with Lone Star Racing, sharing the #80 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo with Salih Yoluc, Scott Andrews and Adam Christodoulou.

The 2024 IMSA MEC  calendar consists of 5 rounds at some of the most iconic circuits of the United States, including the latest addition, the ‘’Battle on the Bricks” at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Rui Andrade:

“IMSA is one of the coolest series I’ve raced in. I love racing in the US and I am excited to be back. It will be quite a challenge to switch to GT mode after three seasons in prototypes but I am looking forward to it. We have an epic calendar, including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been on my bucket list for a long time.”

Maria Catarineu, Commercial Director, Bullet Sports Management:

“We have an exciting season lined up for Rui. He has some catching up to do as a GT racing rookie, but we worked hard to provide him with the best opportunities to learn the ropes. IMSA is a great championship and Rui has already proven himself on almost all the tracks on the calendar. He’s got all it takes to make this year a success.“
