LMP2 World, European and Asian Champion and Le Mans winner Ferdinand Habsburg will become an official Alpine driver and will race the French team’s A424 Hypercar in the premiere class of the World Endurance Championship.

Habsburg joins Alpine when the French manufacturer enters a new era, fielding two entries in the Hypercar class, the pinnacle of endurance racing.

Ferdinand started his single-seater career in 2014 and climbed the ladder all the way to Formula 3. In 2019 he moved into DTM, then in 2021 he found his true calling in endurance racing. Habsburg won every championship he entered. He became FIA WEC LMP2 champion, European and Asian Le Mans Series Champion and won at his first attempt in the Le Mans 24 hours race.

10 years of hard work led to Ferdinand’s first manufacturer drive, a goal he’s been working towards ever since he set foot in motorsport.

The REMUS Performance Sport Exhaust-supported driver signed a contract with Alpine and will play a key role in the development of the French marque’s Hypercar. Ferdinand has already had his first taste of the A424 and he completed a 30-hour test last week at Motorland Aragón where the team completed over 5000km of running.

FIA WEC entered a new golden era in 2023 introducing the Hypercar class which has become a roaring success. They are turning it up a notch for 2024, which will bring a season like no other with the highest class of the championship extending to 18 entries, including two Alpine A424 Hypercars.

The 2024 FIA WEC season commences on March 2 with the 1812 Km of Qatar and will visit eight countries across four continents, including endurance racing’s crown jewel race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Ferdinand Habsburg:

“I am eternally grateful for this opportunity. I have been dreaming about this moment since I was a kid, to turn my passion into a profession by becoming an Alpine driver. For me, this is confirmation of my ability and a credit to everyone who put their trust in me and supported me throughout my career. To become an Alpine driver and enter this new exciting era together is a real privilege. I already had my first date with the car and it went very well. I can’t wait to be in Qatar, dressed in blue, we still have a lot of work to do until the first race. However, that is the beauty of this role, being able to develop the car and make it better together.

Jamie Campbell-Walter, Managing Director Bullet Sports Management:

“No one deserves this opportunity more than Ferdinand. When I started working with him ten years ago, we set a goal for him to become a professional racing driver and we have fought hard for this.
Driving for a major manufacturer like Alpine is every driver’s dream. He is one of the best LMP2 sportscar drivers of his generation winning everything there is to win in the LMP2 class. There couldn’t be a better time to move up to the highest level in one of the most exciting eras of sports car racing history. I am proud of Ferdinand and proud of what we have achieved together.”
