MENCHACA TO MAKE LMP2 DEBUT IN EUROPEAN LE MANS SERIES

Mexican racing driver Diego Menchaca will enter his first season in LMP2 in the highly competitive European Le Mans Series with Algarve Pro Racing.

Diego began his career in single-seaters, climbing all the way up to the GP3 Series – the predecessor of FIA Formula 3. In 2019, after 9 years of open-wheel racing, he moved into sportscar racing, competing in the Blancpain GT Series in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 car.

Now the 26-year-old is ready to make another big step, joining 2-time Asian Le Mans Series Champion team for a full campaign in ELMS.

“I am very happy and thankful to be joining the ELMS with APR,” – said the Telmex-backed driver. “It was quite a surprise as it seemed certain that I’d continue my path in GT3 championships, but when the opportunity arose, I just couldn’t let it go.”

The Telcel supported driver will share the #24 Oreca 07 machine with fellow Bullet Athlete – 2021 Asian Le Mans Series Champion Ferdinand Habsburg, and FIA WEC LMP2 vice champion and Le Mans 24 hours winner, Richard Bradley.

I believe as a package I couldn’t ask for a better team or teammates to begin my journey in prototypes. It will be a big challenge as I’ve never driven an LMP2 car but I’m doing everything in my power to prepare myself as well as possible. Again, I want to thank APR and my backers for this amazing opportunity.’’

A highly competitive 43-car grid will tackle the 2021 ELMS season with sixteen entries battling for the LMP2 honors. The calendar will comprise six 4-hour races across Europe, including Monza, Spa-Francorchamps and three further F1 circuits.

Diego is the latest addition to the Bullet Athlete roster. After managing himself throughout his entire career, he decided to seek for professional assistance as he makes the next big step towards becoming a professional racing driver.

“I‘ve been long enough in this business managing my affairs pretty much on my own, which has led to meeting all sorts of people. After 9 years of racing in Europe I realised I needed a proper structure behind me to look at the bigger picture. Bullet deals with that in a very professional, efficient, dynamic and ethical way, which is all you can ask for. And most importantly, they don’t tell me what I want to hear, but with what I need to hear.”

The European Le Mans Series is scheduled to begin at Barcelona on 18 April.
