Franco Colapinto emerged as a surprise candidate up the front during the F3 Open’s Winter Series at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Besides, Colapinto shone even when the Balance of Performance is still to be fully defined and managed to challenge drivers with cars powered by HWA-Mercedes engines and beat to those using Spiess-Volkswagen and Piedrafita-Toyota.
Colapinto, with his Drivex-run Dallara F317 powered by a Piedrafita-Toyota engine, finished today 3rd in the timesheets and first rookie. The young ace clocked a lap time of 1:37.453 in the morning, a mere tenth of a second slower than the pacesetter. It proved to be another exceptional showing of talent on his Formula 3 debut.
